Latest Commitment of Traders positions (Commodities) as of January 15th 2019

CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Tuesday (12th February) and cover positions up to Tuesday (15th January). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions; however, it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players. Data delayed due to U.S. government shutdown

  • Gold – Net position long and declining
The net long positions declined by 11,303 contracts that pushed the net potion to +87.9K contracts.        
  • Copper – Net position short and rising
The net short positions rose by 8,140 contracts that pushed the net potion to -27.6K contracts.
  • Silver – Net position long and declining
The net long positions declined by 1,848 contracts that pushed the net positions to +52.2K contracts.
  • WTI Crude – Net position long and decreasing
Speculators increased long positions by 29,714 contracts, which brought the net positions to +306.9K contracts.
  • Natural gas – Position shifted from short to long
The net long positions rose by 9,647 contracts that pushed the net potion to +4.2K contracts.
